Submissions
  • National Parliament  ( 16 items )
The process by which a bill must be passed is established in sections 73 through 80 of the Constitution. Sections 59 and 72 of the Constitution require the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces to facilitate public involvement in the legislative process. Formal public involvement by the public is made possible through public hearings and presentations by interested individuals and groups and through making written submissions to portfolio committees considering a bill.
  • National Departments  ( 19 items )
Submissions to national departments generally relate to draft bills that a minister is considering tabling at Parliament or draft regulations which must be put out for public comment prior to being finalised.
  • Provincial Government  ( 1 items )
Similar to the National Parliament, provincial legislatures are required by section 118 of the Constitution to facilitate public participation in the legislative processes of the province.
  • Other Bodies  ( 7 items )
The ALP occasionally makes written submissions to bodies other than national and provincial departments and legislators, such as to the South African Law Reform Commission.
